After being raised in Los Angeles, California, my life journey took me far and wide, to other major cities, and then to small rural communities. My past counseling experience covers the life span and includes work with inpatients, the chronically mentally ill, indigent adults and children, the dying and the bereaved, students, couples, families, those recovering from emergencies and disasters, work groups, church groups, and many, many "walking wounded"; those functioning day to day, but struggling with heavy emotional and/or psychological pain.

My training includes play, art, and music therapy for children. General training includes client-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy, psychological first aid, systems theory, interpersonal therapy, and marital and family approaches.
I believe that compassionate, active listening is essential, but so is realistic discussion that reveals to you new tools and directions. I believe that we are gifted with the drive to heal and self-correct, but sometimes develop blind spots which impede our progress. An objective, trained pair of eyes can improve your view and help you to realize YOUR vision. Lastly, I believe in the 60 vs the 50 minute hour!
On a personal note, my husband and I enjoy life in the LC valley, and travel the Northwest and beyond to stay in touch with family and friends. We both love the outdoors, particularly hiking and exploring the beauty of Mother Nature. We are members of a local church, and enjoy various community activities.
WHY AN LCSW? WHAT IS AN LCSW?
LCSW stands for Licensed Clinical Social Worker. An LCSW is a professional who has first completed a master's degree from an accredited college or university. Next, the equivalent of a two year full time post-graduate period of supervised practice follows. Finally, a lengthy exam must be passed. Once the license is granted, 20 hours of clinically applicable continuing education is required annually, to maintain the licensure.
Professional social workers are the nation's largest providers of mental health services. More than 60% of mental health treatment is delivered by social workers. Social workers in private practice are skilled in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment modalities, and they shape therapeutic interventions that best support you in your journey to greater well being.
